Religious education Classes for Grades 1-8
St. John the Baptist offers weekly grade-specific Religious Education classes for children in grades 1-8 who are not enrolled in Catholic school. These classes, which are taught by teams of volunteer catechists, provide each student with an increasing understanding of the basic tenets of our faith as they grow in their love of God. Classes fill on a first-come basis.
Religious Education for all Grades 1-8 meets in the School on Sunday 10:15-11:25 a.m. Families are encouraged to attend Mass together.

Confirmation Grade 8 (Separate Registration Form)
The absolute last day registrations will be accepted is Wednesday, September 9.
Make checks payable to St. John the Baptist. Complete both sides of Registration/Emergency Contact Form. Return all to Parish Office. Tuition supports only part of the costs. The remainder is subsidized by weekly envelope collections.# of Children Early Discount Registration

**If you are not registered at St. John, we will need a letter of permission from your pastor to attend these classes.
To register your child for First Reconciliation and First Communion Prep, please call or visit the Parish Office: 301-622-1122. First Reconciliation must be received before Holy Communion. No additional fees.
*Active parishioners are registered parishioners who regularly attend Mass and consistently support the parish.

1st through 8th Grade
Catechist for Grades 1 to 5Teach elementary faith formation classes. Requires a single school year commitment (September through early May) to teach a grade continuously on Sunday mornings 10:15-11:25 a.m. Virtus training is required but can be completed through SJB.
Catechist Aide for Grades 1 to 5
Assist in elementary faith formation classes. Requires a single school year commitment (Sept. through early May) to assist with a grade continuously on Sun. mornings 10:15-11:25 a.m. Could be a high school student. For those over 18, Virtus training is required but can be completed through SJB.
Catechist for Grades 6-8
Teach middle school faith formation classes. Requires a single school year commitment (September through early May) to teach a grade continuously on Sundays, 10:15-11:25 a.m. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.
Catechist Aide for Grades 6-8

Adult Ministries
Walking with the Word Bible Study

Youth Ministries
AthleticCoach the various sports offered through SJB’s Athletic Ministry program—soccer, basketball, baseball/softball. Coaches are needed for all ages, Kindergarten through High School. High school students may volunteer to assist with younger grades. For those over 18, Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.
Youth Ministry Volunteer
Assist with various activities of the Youth Ministry Program, such as service trips, social events and other group activities for which adult chaperones are needed. Must be over 18 years old. Virtus training is required, but can be completed through SJB.

Sacraments
OCIA Sponsor
Supports and walks with a person on the path to becoming Catholic. Attends classes and stands with candidate during OCIA rituals, especially at the Easter Vigil Mass. Volunteer commitment is for one year beginning in the Summer and going through Spring.
